Another first for me last night as I won a pillage and received a ruby as part of my prize. Also, recruited two new members, one of them a greenie who apparently knows what he's doing. He said he has been in the game before and was returning. He asked me shortly after coming on the ship if he could nav and I kind of chuckled and said, sure, go ahead and try. Well, he ripped off a couple of excellents and two or three goods, so I was amazed. It was after that, he told me of his previous experience. He loaded the guns for me and even did a battle nav, so it was fun. The ruby was kind of good news/bad news as I picked it up on what was going to be my final battle before putting into port at Byrne. I told Rowdy my news and he said if I left it on the Wrasse, it would be stolen. I set out for Papaya, where Rowdy said there was five more for sail about about 630 or something apiece. I transported the six to Eta, but lost two on the way in lost sea battles. It cost me about 4,000 for the five rubies and I earned 4,000 when I got there...so, basically broke even. Since an earlier night with Ruby who purchased and sold a bunch of opals, I have been on the lookout for gems, but this was the first time I acquired any.
